Albania started implementing the national rabies vaccination program in spring 2014, in line with the an agreement signed by all Western Balkan states for controlling and eradicating this dangerous disease in the region.
Informing the general public about the ongoing vaccination campaigns every spring and every autumn and raising public awareness in general about how to protect against the risk of being infected was of crucial importance for successfully implementing this program.
Core element of the communication was a 30 sec TV spot conveying the key messages:
Rabies can kill you
Beware of foxes and dogs with strange behavior
Don’t touch baits
The spot is regularly broadcasted timely for each spring and autumn vaccination campaign.
Based on a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Education over 2000 schools in Albania received two times per year an information package consisting of a letter from the Ministry of Education, special in-depth information fact sheets for teachers, leaflets and posters. Since spring 2014
